Check which rooms have a table tonight on a live tracker, widen the hour, and set an alert on the hard rooms. The median San Francisco restaurant we track has a table on 65% of dates. At the 6 hardest, aim for the release time or a cancellation.
By the share of dates with a table for two at our last check: Enclos (0%), Fu Hui Hua (0%), House of Prime Rib (0%), Maria Isabel (0%), Naides (0%) and Z & Y (0%). The ranking is live on the SF tracker.
Late or early. 26 of 56 SF rooms open most often at 9 PM or later, and 9 before 6 PM.
Usually, yes, and more often than in New York. On our 19 October 2026 reading, the median San Francisco restaurant we track had a table for two open on 65% of the dates in its booking window. At the 6 hardest of the 60 we measure, every date was taken at that moment, so aim for the release time or a cancellation.
So the city splits in two. Most of the rooms people talk about have something open within the week if you are flexible about the hour. A short list does not, and for those a same-day table only ever comes from a cancellation.

From people cancelling. We have logged 5,120 release events at San Francisco restaurants, moments when a calendar that was full suddenly had a table in it. They do not cluster at a time you could plan around, which is why refreshing loses: the table you want may be open for five minutes on a Wednesday afternoon.
A scheduled release is different, because it has a clock. 18 of the SF rooms we track have a confirmed release rule, and the most common release time here is 12:00 PM Pacific. If a room releases on a schedule, being on the page at that minute is the best shot at a specific night. If the night is already sold, the only way in is a cancellation.
Not prime time. Of the 56 SF rooms with enough slot data to name a pattern, 26 open most often at 9 PM or later and 9 before 6 PM, against 16 at 7:00 to 8:30 PM. A same-day search for 8 PM returns the least, so widen the hour before you change the date.
Search a wide window: 5 PM to 10 PM finds far more than 7 PM to 8 PM.
Try a party of four. At 14 SF rooms, four is easier to book than two.
The average SF room shows a table on 60% of dates for two.
Check the live tracker first, since most rooms here have something open this week. For the rooms that read 0%, star them on SnagRes and let the alert do the waiting: we recheck each calendar around the clock and text or email you the moment a table appears, and you book it yourself on the restaurant's own page.
San Francisco books across several platforms (27 on OpenTable, 15 on Tock, 10 on Resy and 8 on SevenRooms), so a cancellation can surface on any of them. SnagRes never books, holds or resells a table, and never charges for one.
Easiest right now, if tonight matters more than the name: Bar Jabroni (100%), Cafe Zoetrope (100%), Delfina (100%), Elena's (100%) and Hinodeya (100%).
Open the SF tracker and filter to tonight.
Star the hard rooms you actually want; the alert finds the cancellation.
Widen the hour, then try a party of four, then move the date.
