How Resy releases tables

Resy restaurants almost never open their calendar all at once. The common setup is a rolling window: a restaurant books 30 days out, and every night one new day appears at the far edge. A smaller group releases in batches, dropping a week or a month of prime dates at a fixed time. And underneath both patterns runs a constant trickle of cancellations, which is where most bookable tables actually come from.

That mix is why refreshing manually rarely works. The rolling edge arrives at a predictable hour, but the cancellations that free up a Saturday two weeks out arrive whenever someone changes their plans. We track 72 Resy restaurants and see releases at every hour of the day, with no single hour holding more than about a sixth of a given restaurant's activity.

What a Resy alert from SnagRes contains

When new availability appears at a restaurant you have starred, you get an email naming the restaurant, the dates that opened, and a link straight to its Resy page. Plus members also get the exact time slots, so you know whether it is a 5:45pm or an 8:30pm before you click through.

Which Resy restaurants we track

Resy is the dominant platform in New York and a smaller player in San Francisco. Of the 284 restaurants SnagRes monitors, 72 book through Resy: 60 in New York and 12 in San Francisco. That includes most of the New York tables people describe as impossible, among them Carbone, Torrisi, Lilia, Le Bernardin, Don Angie, Semma, and Tatiana.

Coverage is a fixed list rather than the whole platform. We track the restaurants that are genuinely hard to book, because those are the ones where being told the moment a table opens changes the outcome. If a restaurant you want is missing, you can suggest it from the tracker.

Resy Notify versus a tracker

Resy has a built-in waitlist called Notify. It is free, it is official, and it is worth using alongside anything else. Its limits are structural: you join per restaurant per date, you are in a queue with everyone else who joined, and you find out when Resy decides to tell you.

A tracker watches the calendar itself rather than joining a queue, so an alert fires on any new availability at your restaurant, including dates you never explicitly asked about. Using both is reasonable. Notify costs nothing and occasionally lands a table; the tracker is what catches the drop you were not watching for.

Getting started

A free account lets you star one restaurant and be emailed the moment it opens up. There is no card required, and the tracker itself is free to browse without an account at all. Plus raises the cap to 30 restaurants, adds the exact released times, and extends the visible calendar from 14 days to 30.

How Resy release windows and cancellations work, and how to get alerted the moment new availability appears at hard-to-book restaurants in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago.
